# Conflict of Interest

> Disclose and manage conflicts of interest between staff and residents.

## Overview

Certain relationships between staff and residents create conflicts of interest that must be disclosed and managed. Common prohibited relationships include a staff member serving as a resident's beneficiary, guardian, power of attorney, or commingling personal funds with resident funds.

ImaraCare tracks these disclosures so that conflicts are documented and resolved rather than hidden.

## Disclosing a conflict

1. Go to **Finance → Conflict of Interest** (or from a staff member's profile under the Compliance tab).
2. Click **Log Disclosure**.
3. Select the **staff member** and the **resident** involved.
4. Select the **relationship type** from the dropdown.
5. Click **Save Disclosure**.

## Resolving a conflict

After a disclosure is filed, it must be resolved. Open the disclosure record and select one of the following resolutions:

| Resolution | Meaning |
| ------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Waived | The licensing authority or facility administrator has reviewed and approved an exception |
| Staff Reassigned | The staff member is no longer assigned to the resident |
| Relationship Ended | The conflicting relationship no longer exists |

Enter a note explaining the resolution and click **Save**.

## Unresolved disclosures

Unresolved conflicts are highlighted on the compliance dashboard. During inspections, inspectors may ask to review conflict-of-interest disclosures — having resolved records demonstrates proactive management.

<Warning>
A staff member who acts as a beneficiary, guardian, or power of attorney for a resident they work with is in a conflict of interest that can result in license action. When in doubt, consult your licensing authority before the relationship begins.
